What is RPM ?

HPE NonStop Real-time Process Monitor (RPM) is NonStop server software that provides real-time discovery and highlighting of busy CPUs, IPUs, and Processes.  RPM can perform simultaneous real-time monitoring of 1000s of CPUs and 10s of millions of processes throughout an entire network. RPM does more than just discover the busiest IPUs, CPUs or Processes; beginning with RPM 1.2 new By<items> provide discovery of the busiest processes in terms of: ByBusy, ByIOs, ByInputs, ByOutputs, ByMemory, BySwaps, ByPFS, ByQ, ByRcvQ, and so on. Then beginning with RPM 1.3 RPM provided detailed information about the dynamics of how processes use IPUs within CPUs, and whether they are bound to specific IPUs.

How to order RPM ?

HPE NonStop Real-time Process Monitor (RPM) is HPE NonStop server software that can be ordered via normal HPE distribution channels. 

Customers order NonStop RPM via normal HPE sales channels.  Existing customers, analysts, and operations personnel can also obtain RPM on-line via Scout for NonStop servers or trial versions of RPM software can be obtained via the RPM Technical portal.  To order via scout do the following:


How to use RPM with PuTTY and a SSH connection?

RPM is compatible for use with PuTTY (the free SSH client for Windows).
Free copies of PuTTY are at http://www.putty.org/.

To setup for RPM, download PuTTY, install, run PuTTY, then configure PuTTY as follows:

1) Select Session, set Host Name (or IP address), click SSH, Enter a Saved Session name, and click Save.
2) Select Window Appearance, click Change font, select Terminal 9-point, click Ok.
3) Select Connection Data, enter your group.user logon for Auto-login username.
4) Select Connection SSH, enter TACL for Remote command. 

How to create an SSH Shortcut for PuTTY?

Perform the following steps...

1) Right-mouse-click on your Desk Top
2) Select New...
3) Select Shortcut...
4) Enter the location of PuTTY in the location field, for example: C:\MyDir\PuTTY\putty.exe

5) if you want to include your password in the shortcut, right-mouse the shortcut,
and in the "Target" field add -pw <password> to the Target field of the shortcut:

C:\MyDir\putty\putty.exe -pw <password>

Now whenever you click the shortcut, you'll be connected to your NonStop server.


How to enable Telnet in Windows 7 or Vista?

Telnet is enabled by default in Windows XP, and is always included in Windows 7 or Vista. In Windows 7 or Vista Telnet is enabled as follows:

1) Click the Start ... button on the Windows taskbar.
2) Click Settings... Control Panel...
3) Click Programs and Features...
4) In the "Common Tasks" area of the "Programs and Features" window
    click on "Turn Windows features on or off".
5) When the "Windows Features" window appears, scroll to Telnet Client and select that Check Box.
6) Click OK to enable.

 


How to create Telnet Shortcut to NonStop server from Windows?

Simply perform the following steps...

1) Right-mouse click your Desk Top.
2) Select New...
3) Select Shortcut...
4) Enter the following in the location field =
%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /k TELNET <ip-address-of-server>

 


How to add RPM Services to NonStop servers?

Perform following steps from SCF on TACL...

TACL 1 > SCF
1-> ASSUME PROCESS $ZTN00 -- where $ZTN00 is $SYSTEM.SYSnn.TELSERV process
2-> ADD SERVICE RPMVT, TYPE CONVERSATION, ACCESS ALL, SUBTYPE DYNAMIC, PROGRAM $system.system.RPMVT
3-> ADD SERVICE RPM65, TYPE CONVERSATION, ACCESS ALL, SUBTYPE DYNAMIC, PROGRAM $system.system.RPM65
4-> ADD SERVICE RPM,   TYPE CONVERSATION, ACCESS ALL, SUBTYPE DYNAMIC, PROGRAM $system.system.RPM

Once the steps above are completed, you can access RPM without needing a TACL and without needing to logon:
